Summer 16 Protective Styling Challenge ft. Hask Hair Products (Part One)

5/10/2016

I know summer hasn't officially started yet but I made a personal challenge to myself to give my natural hair a break from everyday styling...........
I have been doing many twist outs and braid outs, dyed my hair (late last year), and etc. which at this point, I feel that my hair has been stressed out.  So I decided for the summertime, that I will keep my hair in protective styles until the fall season.  With each protective style, my plan is to keep the style up to 8 weeks.  So for my first protective style, I decided to do box braids.

To prepare to my box braids, I wanted to start off with freshly clean and moisturized hair.  I decided to use the Hask Charcoal with Citrus Oil Shampoo, Conditioner, and Deep Conditioner that was sent to me for review by Brandbacker:

Information from Hask:

"Check your (hair) baggage at the door with HASK Charcoal with Citrus Oil collection!

Hair weighing you down? It’s time for a detox! Introducing HASK Purifying Charcoal Collection – a complete line that features a Shampoo, Conditioner, and Deep Conditioner that are formulated to give you a deep clean and bring hair back to life.

Whether you rely on dry shampoo to maintain your weekly blowouts or reach for sprays and gels regularly, overdoing it with product can create build-up that weighs your hair down and can seriously cramp your style. Charcoal, a hero ingredient derived from coconut shells in the Philippines, acts as a magnet and attracts and removes impurities – like product build-up – so you are left with hair that is full of body and shine.

For an extra boost of radiance, HASK purifying charcoal combined with vitamin C-rich lemon and grapefruit oils, invigorates and clarifies hair without stripping away any moisture."

I first started off with using the Hask Charcoal Purifying Shampoo:

It has an amazing smell and it worked great for my hair.  It has a great lather and it didn't leave my hair tangled or stripped with moisture.  It removed all of my product build up in my hair and my hair felt really soft (it didn't feel like straw).  I didn't have any problems rinsing the product from my hair and I felt that my scalp was fresh and clean.

Next, I used the Hask Charcoal Purifying Conditioner:

Again, the smell was amazing and it worked smoothly throughout my hair.  I was able to finger detangle my hair without any problems and created great slip.  I left it in my hair for about a minute and it rinsed out completely.  This also left my hair very soft and moisturize.

The last product that I used was the Hask Charcoal Purifying Deep Conditioner:

I applied this throughout my hair and also finger detangled.  After I applied the deep conditioner, I put on a plastic cap, a conditioner cap, and also a bonnet so that the deep conditioner would penetrate my hair.  I left it in my hair for 1 hour (the directions on the product listed to leave it in for 10 minutes) and then rinsed it out without any problems.  My hair was soft, moisturizer, and was easy to detangle with my comb.

Overall, I really loved these products and happy that I had a chance to try them.  The Shampoo and Conditioner comes in a 12 oz bottle and the Deep Conditioner comes in a 1.75 oz package. I have kinky hair and it worked fabulous for my hair type.  I should also note that these products are free from sulfates, parabens, phthalates, gluten, drying alcohol and artificial colors.  It is also safe for color treated hair and is safe for natural or chemically treated hair.  I highly recommend that you should try these products and I will definitely will be purchasing these products in the future.

You can find Hask Hair products at Ulta, Target, Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, and etc. and their products are not expensive (most products are $6.00 or less).
