The Acne Diary Series: Supplements That Helps Acne Prone Skin

12/13/2016

Before I get started, let me get the important notice out of the way (and I may repeat this throughout this blogpost)..........

"Before taking any vitamins or supplements, please consult with your doctor.......any pre-existing medical conditions or medications you are taking can affect how your body responds to vitamins or supplements"

Now let's get started.........

When my acne was in a all out war with my face, I began to research many websites and forums about natural ways to cure my acne.  Many sites suggested taking certain vitamins and supplements to help clear your skin and help with future breakouts.  I will first discuss the supplements that I have been taking for many years and then, discuss the supplements that I have added within this past year to help with my acne.

First, let me start with my daily multivitamin:

I usually take a Women's multivitamin because my eating habits are not the best so I use this to help fill in the gaps with my nutrition.  A multivitamin can help overall with providing you with healthy skin and removing some toxins from your body that can lead to acne.

I take fish oil to help me with my heart health but as a bonus, this supplements also helps with acne.  Fish oil can help reduce acne inflammation and help clear up your breakouts faster.

The next three supplements I have added this year to help me with my acne breakouts:

I added EPO to help with my hormonal acne, especially during my menstrual cycle because I always breakout during this time.  I have noticed that this will help reduce my cystic acne a week before/during my period and also reduces the amount of pimples during this time.  Also (unrelated to acne), this really helps with my cramps (I use to have really bad cramps) and also helps me with my PMS mood swings.

This and the addition with vitamin A has been a lifesaver with dealing with acne.  I noticed from taking this, my breakouts has been reduced and it helps keep my skin clear.  I also should note that sometimes I would have breakouts on my chest and upper back and since I have been taking this and vitamin A, I no longer are acne in those areas.

**Warning, Warning, WARNING: Do not take Zinc on a empty stomach.  It may make you throw up or make you very nauseated.  For the best result, take Zinc halfway throughout your meal or after your meal**

And I saved the best for last:

For me, this has been the best supplement to take for my acne.  This vitamin cleared up my acne so much I now can't go without it.   Again, this with Zinc, cleared my acne and also keeps my breakouts from becoming severe.

**Another Warning, Warning WARNING: DO NOT consume 10,000 IU of vitamin A daily.  Taking more than the max recommended amount can lead to vitamin A toxicity**

Again:

So I just wanted to share what vitamins and supplements that has been working for me with my acne.  Of course, you don't have to take any supplements and can get the same type of nutrients from your diet.  This is just to provide information of natural ways you can try to help your acne without going through the prescription route.  Also, let me note again:

"Before taking any vitamins or supplements, please consult with your doctor.......any pre-existing medical conditions or medications you are taking can affect how your body responds to vitamins or supplements"

Also I just wanted to update everyone of how my acne has been doing and since last year, my acne was so bad.....I wanted to share how far I have come to try to clear it up a bit:
