1st Impression: Too Faced Cocoa Contour (Medium to Deep) Review

For Mother's Day, my husband gave me an Ulta gift card along with many other gifts and I decided to pick up the Too Faced "Cocoa Contour" Face Contouring and Highlighting Kit in Medium to Deep..........

To be honest, I really don't contour a lot and have avoided many contour palettes.  The reason I decided to pick this one was first, it came in only 4 shades (which really works for me) and second, it was apart to the Too Faced Chocolate line collection which I love so much.  When the original Cocoa Contour came out, I decided not to get it because I believed it would not work for my skin tone, so I was excited to see Too Faced release another contour kit for Medium to Deep skin tones.

Information from Too Faced:

"Now available in deeper shades! Cocoa Contour gives you the power to enhance your most beautiful features and minimize the ones you want to hide in a few simple steps. This curated kit comes with the two essential sculpting shades, the perfect matte highlighter, and a luminous Cocoa Glow for a contoured look that never looks flat. Infused with the antioxidant-rich Exclusive Cocoa Complex, the powders blend seamlessly and indulge you with a decadent chocolate scent. Features a Contour Buki Brush for the most professional sculpting effect."

Like I mentioned before, this powder contour palette comes in 4 shades (0.17 oz) and it also comes with a small kabuki angled brush (which is very soft and works perfectly with this palette):

Like everything in their chocolate collection, this palette smells like chocolate (which I love since I'm a chocoholic).  It also applies very smoothly (not chalky at all) and blends in beautifully.  I love the fact that powders are matte (which the exception of Cocoa Glow) and it works for my oily skin.  I didn't experience any breakouts while using this and it was very easy to use (it also comes with a How-To Glamour Guide to show you 3 different contour looks). It also doesn't come off cakey and looks natural. Here is how the shades looks against my skin tone:

When I used this palette, I use the "Cocoa Butter" shade under my eyes and the "Deep Mocha" shade as my contour shade.  I finished the look using the "Cocoa Glow" as my highlighter shade:

Overall, I really like this contour palette and it's pretty simple go use.  I would say if you are a beginner with contouring or you don't do it on a daily basis, this would be perfect for you to try.  Even if you do contour everyday, I would say that this would give you a natural contour look and it's not harsh.  The only thing that I really didn't like about this palette was the "Cocoa Glow" shade.  It was hard to get the color to show up as a highlighter and even when I used a lot of it, it still under performed.  Other than that, this palette works for me and I think it's a great addition to their chocolate collection:

The Too Faced Cocoa Contour cost $40.00 and can be purchased at Sephora, Ulta, and the Too Faced website.
